God’s Love

1 John 4:8-12 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

We all remember the adage, “Actions speak louder than words”.  Well, who has ever shown a greater love by their actions than God? He loved us before we were ever born, and He sent Jesus to atone for our sins before they were even committed. What love!

Sometimes I think the word “love” has been so overused (I “love” that dress, or I “love” banana pudding) that it’s meaning has been watered down. But God expects us to operate in the fullness of his love, not in a mere shadow.

How can we reflect God’s love today? Smiling at a stranger, paying for someone’s coffee at Starbucks, or refraining from anger when a driver pulls in front of us. If we cannot show God’s love in the everyday moments, then how can we begin to live out His love in the triumphs and tragedies of life?

May we live in the present each day so that we never miss a chance to reflect God and His extreme love.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
