Abiding in Christ
Psalm 27
New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 27
Of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation)—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.
4 One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.
What type of lights have you used in your lifetime? As a child, we had overhead lights that were activated by pulling a string or a chain. I despised those lights, because the string would sometimes break leaving you in darkness, and I was afraid of the dark! Some of our lights had switches on the walls, and those were fine once I reached the height to use them. I have used candles when the power went off, and flashlights for finding my way outside in the dark. But the most precious light I have found in my life has been the light that the Holy Scriptures shed upon my life.
I love Psalm 27 where we are told that the Lord is our light and our salvation, whom shall we fear. He is the stronghold of our lives, of whom shall we be afraid? When we make our dwelling place with the Lord, when we abide in Him, there is no place for fear or anger or despair.
The song “It is Well with my Soul” could well be the accompaniment to this psalm, for it assures us that whatever happens in life, if we have Jesus as our Savior, it is well with our soul.
Is it well with your soul today? Has the Holy Scripture been a lamp unto your feet and light unto your path? Has Jesus become your light and your salvation?
Today is truly the day the Lord has made. Come to Jesus today and allow Him to become your light, your stronghold, your safe place.
Prayer: Our Father, today we come to you confident that you love us and you want to protect us. May we abide with you now and forever. Amen
