Like a Tree Planted by the Water
Jeremiah 17:7-8 But blessed is
That the one who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
Psalms 1:1-3 1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
I love the image these scriptures invoke. A tree is planted just the right distance from the fresh, running water so that the roots are fed the proper nutrients and the results are that the tree bears the exact fruit God intended the tree to bear. How does this apply to us today?
God has a plan and praise His name we are not big enough to change His plans. He gives us all we need to complete His purposes, but we can make things difficult when we wander off of the pathway of holiness. We are not to walk side by side with sinners. Why? Being in the company of sinners for too long tends to get us comfortable with the places where sinners dwell. Soon we are sitting with them and enjoying things never intended for us. Ultimately if we stay too long, we will exchange blessings for curses.
You see, God’s nature never changes. He is a covenant making and a covenant keeping God. Pastor Mark Evans, the senior pastor at “The Church at Rock Creek” taught a comprehensive series on the covenants of God called “No Take Backs,” which began 10/1/23. I encourage you to take the time to watch this series located under the “Media” section of the website. It will be time well spent as you soak up the nutrients of God’s promises and come to understand the importance of God’s covenants.
May we learn each day what God is doing for us and that His promises never change.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
