Man of Peace
(KJV) Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
As we approach Easter, it is good to put into perspective the cost of salvation. While the redemption of our souls and the restoration of our relationship with God is free to all who believe, the cost to God was incalculable.
When we consider that God knew from the foundation of the world that such a sacrifice would be required, and Jesus knew as he knelt in the Garden that only He could save mankind, we understand the weight of that moment and the great love that God has for us.
In this part of the Scripture we see that Jesus not only took our sins to Calvary, but he bore our grief and our sorrows. Yet, we tend to hold onto sorrow and disappointment as though we have no other choice. What if today we make the choice to let Jesus do what Jesus does?
May we, at least for today, trust in Jesus to give us the peace that only comes through Him.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
